Our posts recently have been about “the cloud” and what it is or how it benefits you.  So while I was on vacation I thought how has it affected our daily lives.  I’ll list some activities I did and how “the cloud” was used and I think you’ll be surprised how you’ve been using it as well.

  1. I started every day after breakfast checking email.  I use Hotmail (cloud based email) and checked my work email as well (private cloud).
  2. A few times during the week I was on LinkedIN (social cloud).
  3. My sister-in-law and my daughter were both on Facebook (social cloud) during the week.
  4. My sister-in-law did some online shopping at Amazon (ecommerce cloud).
  5.  I checked my bank account balances online (private/public cloud).
  6. At work we use an application called Connectwise which I can access from anywhere.  It handles some CRM and ticketing for our technicians as well as other applications for our business.
  7. We also use an application called HubSpot.  I used it while away to look at our website activity and sent a marketing email blast to our prospects.
So I was using “the cloud” while away all the time. If you think about it, you’ve been in “the cloud” for quite some time now.  There are some great business applications for the cloud and it really depends on how you and your team need to access certain data.  As far as I’m concerned, “the cloud” is more a marketing term for applications we’ve been using for a long time.
