Is It Time To Upgrade Your QuickBooks?

describe the imageQuickBooks is the most popular accounting software for businesses.  There are 3 versions of QuickBooks you could be using: Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.  I’m going to give you 5.5 reasons to think about if you’re ready to upgrade:

  1.  Your current version is older than 2009.  If your QB Pro, Premier or Enterprise software is older than 2009, you could be missing some valuable enhancements to the program.
  2. When you first started to use it, you only needed a few users.  QuickBooks Pro & Premier are ideally suited for less than 3-5 users but many businesses have grown and could upgrade to Enterprise which can have a maximum number of 30 users.
  3. Your accounting software is handling just the basic accounting functions and you’re using Word or Excel to create reports.  Enterprise comes with industry specific reports for manufacturing or distribution plus other industries.
  4. QuickBooks Pro & Premier allow for a limited number of inventory, customers and vendors that can be tracked(14,500) while Enterprise can handle over 100,000.
  5. Restrictions on user access to specific reports, bank accounts, lists, and activities.  QB Pro & Premier don’t have the extensive level of user restrictions as Enterprise.

5.5   Your business has grown and you have multiple divisions/companies.  Enterprise can handle many functions in Multi-user mode.

Even though the economy has been tough, many businesses did experience some positive changes over the last 3 years and have now found themselves in a situation where their accounting software just isn’t up to speed.  Purchasing new software is a less expensive proposition now and conversions are even easier.  I’ll admit this is a simplified set of reasons but I think it gives you a basic understanding of why you should start to think about upgrading.  Intuit does like to give QuickBooks Pro or Premier Users a discount typically when they upgrade to Enterprise so ask for it before you upgrade.

Our office updated to Quickbooks Pro 2010. Maybe it was a coincidence but before updating, make sure your computer has all the requirements of the software.

It is a good upgrade. We needed an up to date video card anyway.

What about QB's don't you like? Premier and Enterprise have industry specific versions that may be better suited to what you're trying to do.
